Growing people, Not Just Headcount
We have always focused on our people. That means creating an environment where individuals can learn, make mistakes safely, ask questions, and build confidence, not just tick boxes.
We invest heavily in graduates and early-career professionals, not because it’s easy, but because it’s the right thing to do. We believe in giving people a start, backing them properly, and helping them build meaningful, long-term careers.
This viewpoint is deeply embedded in Alchemy, and it’s one of the reasons our culture feels different. It’s one of the reasons NTT DATA recognised the strength of what we’d built when they acquired us, not just our capability, but our approach. This approach is now the blueprint for the development of NTT DATA’s Guidewire practice globally and is being rolled out from our Centre of Excellence in Derry-Londonderry.
Growing People, Not Just Skills
Our talent engine wasn’t designed to look good on paper. It was built with purpose, to solve real challenges around quality, consistency, and long-term sustainability. While strong technical capability is essential, it’s only part of the picture. We invest just as heavily in developing our people as individuals. That means building self-awareness, strengthening behaviours, and helping people understand different communication styles. These are the qualities that enable our teams to collaborate effectively, navigate complexity with confidence, and deliver meaningful outcomes for our clients.
We focus on developing people, not just their skills. We want everyone to understand not only what they do, but how they approach their work. By encouraging self-awareness and positive ways of working, we create an environment where people feel comfortable being themselves and can grow and improve in their roles.
Inclusivity is central to this model. We don’t want everyone to think or develop in the same way. Different perspectives, experiences, and ways of thinking make us stronger. By fostering a culture where people feel valued for who they are, we enable better collaboration, stronger decision-making, and consistently high standards of delivery.
At the heart of it all is a simple belief: when people are supported, trusted, and challenged in the right way, they thrive, a responsibility we take seriously. It shapes how we design our training, how we support development, and how we measure success. It’s why we invest early, take a long-term view, and never compromise on quality.
Amy Lowry, Director of Guidewire Sales EMEA, has been with Alchemy since 2018. Having joined through the programme from day one, she reflects on the lasting impact it has had on her career:
‘I joined Alchemy from day one through the graduate programme, and it genuinely shaped who I am professionally. It wasn’t just about learning Guidewire. It was about being trusted early, supported properly, and given the space to build real confidence. What means the most to me is that the investment was personal, not transactional. People took the time to coach me, challenge me, and back me before I fully backed myself. That belief gave me the confidence to step into opportunities I might not otherwise have taken, and it’s why I care so deeply about continuing that model for others coming through today.’
More than training - a community
One of the most important components of our Talent Engine is Community.
We believe people learn best from each other. That’s why mentoring, shadowing, peer learning and knowledge sharing are so deeply embedded in how we work. From day one, our people are supported by those around them, learning not just skills but how to communicate, collaborate, and achieve together.
That sense of belonging starts even earlier, through our involvement in STEM initiatives and outreach programmes. We want young people to see that a career in tech is possible, accessible, and exciting, especially within their own communities. For us, this isn’t ESG activity. It’s playing our part in building the future of our industry.
The Alchemy Training Programme: consistency, care, and quality
At the heart of our talent engine is our 12-week training programme.
It brings together:
- Technical training aligned to Guidewire certifications
- Structured insurance learning, including Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) accreditation
- Behavioural and leadership development based on the Human Synergistics framework
Delivered in person by experienced trainers and practitioners, the programme ensures that every consultant develops against the same high standards, not just technically, but professionally and personally.
Progression is intentional. Consultants move through clearly defined quality gates covering technical ability, soft skills, and consultancy readiness before joining client engagements. This approach has been refined over more than six years and is consistently recognised by our clients as a key strength of the Alchemy model.
It’s not about speed.
It’s about doing things properly.
A Model Built for Long-Term Impact
Since 2018, that approach has helped us build a community of over 200 Guidewire professionals, holding nearly 600 certifications and, more importantly, a reputation for care, quality, and consistency.
As we’ve grown, one thing has remained constant. Our belief that people deserve time, support and trust to do their best work.
We focus on creating an environment where people want to stay, want to grow, and feel proud of their work. Where careers develop at a sustainable pace, learning is continuous and quality is owned, not outsourced.
That’s what makes our Talent Engine human-centric.
It’s what makes it intentional and unique.
